2021, The Year I Maximize Me!

I am always amazed by God’s timing. Here we are in the middle of a world-wide pandemic and He challenges us to maximize our potential. For nearly a year, we have been relegated to live under the restrictions of quarantine and social distancing. Not being able to go to work, to school, the library, the movie theater, and restaurants is one thing; but to not be able to go physically to the church as Hebrews 10:25 commands is torture for those who love being in fellowship. Regardless of the size of the congregation, most church services are being streamed and/or recorded in some capacity. Why then would God challenge us to become maximized during a time like this?

When Christian Education proposed Maximizing Your Potential: The Keys to Dying Empty by the late Dr. Myles Munroe as the study material for 2021, not only did my head nod, but so did my heart. Dr. Munroe holds a very special place in my heart. I never met him physically, but I have certainly met him in the spirit. His life’s dedication to enlarge the capacity of Christian thinking and understanding prompted me to embrace my Kingdom citizenship. I have studied Dr. Munroe’s renderings for decades. I have been blessed, advanced, challenged and secured as his transcriptions cause me to search my bible with expectation and enthusiasm. Learning about my Kingdom citizenship literally pushed status quo living out of my life, making mediocre unacceptable. Even during this unusual and unexpected time in the history of our world, this wilderness of sorts, I am purposed to pursue sharpening.

The wilderness, and that is exactly where we are right now, is not a place of punishment (I had to learn that personally). The wilderness is a place we visit. It is not our ultimate destination. If we handle this time correctly, we can and we will experience victory; yes, victory! A wilderness, a spiritual wilderness, does not have to be a negative time if we are eager to hear and obey God. Again, I say this is not about punishing God’s people because of what we have done (grace covers that) and neither is it about what we have not done (mercy covers that), it just may be a time for us to privately and personally maximize.

Herein lies a misconception: When people enter in a wilderness season, some make it a WILD-derness! Many people panic and behave unwisely. Without understanding, some seek peace and/or relief, however temporal, from sources outside of God. During times like this, idolatry is assuredly and readily available. We must be careful not to make any radical changes during times like this. The monotony of living under restraint can cause one to make permanent decisions in a season of uncertainty. Instead of succumbing to the dryness of this season, I want to challenge you to drink from the fountain that never runs dry. Let us not repeat the error of the children of Israel. Let us not make our own escape route of masked complaining and murmuring. We are not delusional at all. These past nine months have been more than tough.

Remember the song we sang pre-COVID-19:

Our God is greater, our God is stronger,

God, You are higher than any other,

Our God is Healer, awesome in power,

Our God! Our God

Did we mean those word or does those sentiments apply only when we are pain free?

Sisters, we must not allow ourselves to unwittingly prolong this wilderness time by wilding out. God is well-aware of the hardship, frustration, and discouragement. He understands how human fear will wrestle against our faith. He feels the sogginess of our tear-stained pillows. We are not in this place to minimize our pursuit of holiness! This a time for us to maximize our witness.

We will make the best out of COVID-19 as we have with COVID-1619! Not only do we turn lemon into lemonade, but we also purchase the stand, build a brand, market our merchandise (Proverbs 31:13) and share the profits with others (Proverbs 31:15). I pray you are ready for the stretching that comes with becoming your maximized self. If you are unsure of how the greater you will manifest after all of this, I encourage you to travel with us in 2021. I believe, strongly believe, the maximized you will profit the Kingdom of God and the world around you. Let’s make His name greater as we maximize together.
