Free Indeed or Bound by Bowing Out
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. Gal. 5:1
Edmund Burke was a liberal conservative and a political theorist who served as a member of parliament. He wrote, “All that’s necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.”
When it comes to the political scene and government today, some believers have dropped out altogether. They believe that if they get involved in government, somehow, it’s viewed as “social gospel.” So, they’ve just dropped out and say things like, “It’s not affecting me,” “They are going to do whatever they want to do or whatever works for them,” or “I’m just trying to hold on till Jesus comes.” They see the political scene as worldly. And some believe that church and state should be separated.
Well, that truly was not the case when God told Moses, Go to Pharaoh and say to him, thus says the Lord,” Let my people go that they may worship me” (Exodus 10:3). God gave Moses power that inspired him to go back to Egypt, obeying God and demand freedom for the Israelites.
Also, God granted wisdom and courage to a young girl named Esther to step up, risking her own life to overturn a decree to assassinate her people. (Read the inspiring Book of Esther).
It’s hard to believe that God would have ordained government, then tell His people to stay out of it. We can no longer afford to drop out or stay out of it!
We the people, God’s people, need to take action: confess our sins, turn from our wicked ways, speak up and stand up for what is right (II Chronicles 7:14). With our speech being seasoned with salt, we must speak out against injustice. It’s a must that we come out from under the rocks of fear, ignorance and selfishness and stand on The Rock in whom we have freedom and liberty through Christ.
Have a Happy Life of Freedom through Christ.
